Texas

Drug abuse in Texas comes in a variety of forms, but no matter what form of addiction is affecting you or your loved one, the time to get help is NOW. Left untreated, alcoholism and drug addiction will completely destroy you. Every year, substance abuse costs Texas billions of dollars. Isn’t it time to fight back? Take a stand and call The Way Out today at 1-877-WAYOUT7.

Cocaine addiction is exploding across Texas, particularly in border communities

Cocaine is a dangerous, addictive drug and its use is on the rise in Texas, according to a 2006 study by The University of Texas. In fact, cocaine and crack cocaine are now “the primary illicit drug” for which clients enter Texas drug rehab. About two-thirds of cocaine-related Texas drug rehab admissions are for addicts who smoke crack cocaine, with the other third is comprised of those either inhaling or injecting powder cocaine.

Cocaine addiction is particularly a problem in cities and towns along the Texas-Mexico border. For example, 26 percent of all Texas drug rehab center admissions in border communities are because of cocaine abuse, according to the UT study. In high schools along the border, teenagers are trying cocaine at alarming rates. In 2004, six percent of Texas 9th graders who lived in non-border towns reported trying cocaine or crack cocaine, but in border cities that figure jumped to 12 percent. Among high school seniors, about 10 percent of 12th graders in non-border towns have tried coke, but a much higher number – 23 percent – of border town 12th graders say they’ve used the drug.

For those who get hooked on cocaine as an adolescent, young adulthood often becomes a cloudy, drug-obsessed blur. Powder cocaine inhalers average nine years between their first regular use of the drug and when they finally enter Texas drug rehab. Those who inject cocaine typically wait even longer to get the treatment they need. If cocaine is a problem for you or your loved one, the time to make a change is NOW. Drug rehab in Texas has successfully treated cocaine addiction in thousands of clients. Our next success story could be you.

Untreated addiction is very costly, but Texas drug rehab can help

The life of an untreated alcoholic or drug addict is often an emotional rollercoaster – causing anguish to the addict as well as to their friends and family. Clearly, getting clean and sober is the right thing to do, but did you also know that sobriety makes incredible FINANCIAL sense?

That’s right – drug rehab in Texas saves money. Addiction costs the state billions of dollars each year – almost $26 billion in 2000, according to the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. One obvious cost of drug abuse is the arrests, jail time, and other law enforcement expenses that come from prosecuting addicts. Nearly 1 in 5 inmates in state custody are serving time because of drug offenses, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

Other costs include motor vehicle crashes, social welfare costs, and lost workplace productivity (addicts call out sick more often, and are less productive on days they show up). And let’s not forget that addiction has some severe consequences that can’t be measured in dollars and cents, such as when a loved one dies in a drunk-driving accident or drug overdose.

Some Texas drunk drivers these days are so reckless that police are arresting them for DUI while their children are in the back seat. Angelina County Constable Tom Selman told Lufkin TV station KTRE-Channel 9 that in the last six or eight months he personally has arrested three different individuals who had child passengers in the car while they drove intoxicated. That’s the kind of behavior that can lead to a parent losing custody of their child, or even worse, injuring or killing their child in a collision.

Face it:  if given enough time, substance abuse will take everything you have. Don’t let it. Call The Way Out today at 1-877-WAYOUT7 for free assistance in finding the right Texas drug rehab for you or your loved one.

Texas drug rehab treats all types of addiction, including prescription drugs

Even though prescription drugs are legal, they are still highly addictive. Thousands of Lone Star State residents are hooked on pills – particularly pain medicines such as hydrocodone. Because these pills are prescribed by a doctor, many folks mistakenly think they aren’t dangerous. In fact, they’re HIGHLY dangerous. In 2007, for example, hydrocodone addiction caused 360 overdose deaths in Texas, according to the Addiction Research Institute.

Some pain pill addicts have gotten into the risky habit of mixing their prescription drugs with alcohol to intensify the effects. Mixing prescription drugs with other substances, including other types of prescription pills, greatly increases the chances of serious side effects or even permanent physical harm.

In Houston, a dangerous mix of prescription drugs known as the “Houston Cocktail” or “Holy Trinity” has become popular with pill addicts. It’s a combination of alprazolam, hyrdrocodone and carisoprodol. The widespread abuse of these three prescription drugs, along with many others, led Houston outreach workers to tell the Addiction Research Institute that “pain clinics appear to be the biggest drug dealers in town.”

Remember, prescription pills are narcotics, plain and simple. Just like cocaine and heroin, they can take over a person’s life. But drug rehab centers in Texas have become experts at treating prescription drug abuse. If pills (or any other form of addiction) have become a problem in your family, the help you need is truly only a phone call away. Make a positive change, and call The Way Out today at 1-877-WAYOUT7.
