Yesterday, a judge in Nashville approved a settlement regarding public intoxication and vandalism charges against Shaun White. The charges will be dismissed if the two-time Olympic gold winner of ’06 and ’10 completes alcohol treatment, performs 24 hours of community service and pays restitution.

According to the Huffington Post, “White pulled a fire alarm in a Nashville hotel at about 2 a.m. on Sept. 16, forcing all guests to evacuate. He then tried to flee but ended up in the hospital after he hit his head while trying to fight another guest who had called the police on him. A police photo of White showed him with a black eye.”

White has apologized on Facebook, where he has more than 3 million followers, for his “poor behavior.” Once White completes treatment and the charges are dismissed, he could ask to have his record cleared.

Do you think treatment is the appropriate ‘punishment’?
