While there have been countless celebrities who have succeeded in recovery in the past, others have lost their struggle with addiction. Boxer Oscar De La Hoya has announced he has been in treatment for alcohol abuse. The retired fighter shocked many of his fans with the news earlier this year. With the help of Alcoholics Anonymous, De La Hoya has been sober for 3 months now, and is opening up about his past troubles with addiction and how he got through it.
Richie Sambora made headlines in 2011 when he checked himself into rehab for “falling off the wagon”. This talented guitarist has completed his program and is again touring with Bon Jovi, ready to stay sober this time.
Lindsay Lohan has been in and out of both rehab and court for some time now. Her name always pops up when talking about celebrities in rehab because of her very public struggle. Mike Tyson, Joe Namath, Brett Favre, Darryl Strawberry, and other sports greats continued to have careers even after addiction.
